About Openmind Projects Special Training Center in Northeast Thailand and our Trainees.
LEARN ABOUT
How we work at our Center and how or our trainees improve themselves.
Our trainees stay at our center for free to prepare for their future. They come from poor families, migrants and rice farmers in villages in Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar.
Many of them learned English at school. They learned by heart however, rote learning, to repeat, mostly without understanding. English teachers in villages cannot speak English, only teach from the book. This is a result of the education system and lack of resources.
New trainees have limited or no experience of IT, Internet.
At our Center new trainees are introduced to IT, Internet and searching online. They are also taught Basic English and computer skills.
Then trainees go on to learn to make presentations. Initially they learn to introduce themselves and later to work in teams to search for information on topics important for them to learn about: technology and its effects on jobs and education, health and food, climate change and its causes, more. They learn with the help of each other, peer to peer, our staff and volunteers.
We strive to instill curiosity, motivation, confidence to learn and thinking critical and analytical.
In short, we want to create lifelong learners!
To summarize. This is our ambition with trainees as well as campers! They get tasks to search online (in English) for information about important themes and to prepare to share with their friends in presentations, sometimes debates. Multi learning about the world, improving English and IT, online searching skills, while being inspired, more confident and critical, analytical.
Our volunteers provide welcome help and love it!
Welcome to our Center, welcome to our Camps!
