Cooking Thai style

Sticky rice (ข้าวเหนียว Kao neaw in Thai)

Sticky rice is a rice dish from North East Thailand (Isaan area), the North Chiang Mai area and Laos. Sticky rice is traditionally served in a beautiful Bamboo Sticky Rice Basket (กระติบ grateep in Thai).

Openmind Projects volunteer learn to make a Bamboo Sticky Rice Basket during his volunteering at Eco based tourism village in Laos.

The traditional way to eat sticky rice

Sticky rice is not only meant to be eaten with your hands , but it is also meant to serve as a utensil. The basic method is to scoop up a mound of rice, rolling it into a little ball, and using it to scoop up your food. It’s really fun to eat.
